Shionogi's cholesterol drug 'Crestor' approved in Japan

Shionogi & Co. said Wednesday that the Japanese government has approved the marketing of its Crestor drug for treating high cholesterol.

The drug, whose compound was originally discovered by Shionogi, was developed together with Astrazeneca Plc (AZN). The two companies will market Crestor in Japan jointly, Shionogi said in a statement.

Crestor is already sold in more than 50 countries including the U.S., and has been prescribed to some 4 million patients suffering from high cholesterol.
