NHS price fixing claims

Nieuws van: Skynews
Up to 12 senior drug company executives are likely to be charged with defrauding the NHS of more than £100m, it has been reported.

According to The Times, the employees from six firms will be accused of fixing the prices of commonly prescribed medicines.

If convicted, the companies could be fined millions and the individuals jailed for up to 10 years.

The trial would be the result of a three-year investigation by the Serious Fraud Office and charges are likely to be laid by Christmas, according to the paper.

The individuals involved cannot be named before decisions on charges are made.

The companies involved are Kent Pharmaceuticals, Norton Healthcare, the Goldshield Group, Generics UK, Ranbaxy Laboratories UK Unit and Regent-GM Laboratories Ltd.

They all vehemently deny any wrongdoing and are expected to lodge challenges as soon as any charges are laid.

Two firms - Generics UK and Ranbaxy - have compensated the NHS for a total of more than £16m without admitting liability.
